ARTIST STATEMENT

"Creating watercolor paintings allows me to analyze social expectations and stereotypes.
These expectations and stereotypes are exaggerated, so they can be illustrated in an entertaining way.

It is not my intent to paint how people should interact with each other, but rather to show off the rules of these interactions.

The characters in these paintings explore the consequences of these rules, whether they be beneficial or detrimental for personal well-being.

The exaggerated versions of these social norms are illustrated through a surreal and symbolic approach.

Strange, beautiful and terrifying aspects of social behavior are highlighted through dreamy scenery and fragmented patterns.

Additionally, using symbolic icons and themes prevents the paintings from becoming too nonsensical.

This allows the artwork to convey social stereotypes in ways that are overly dramatic, obnoxious or comedic.

Whether or not these paintings bring you joy or frustration, I hope that you will be entertained by the surreal spectacle they present.

They can provide a mental sanctuary, to escape what our communities expect from us, before inevitably returning to the reality of our everyday lives."
